House by the Fjord

A house for a family of four on a sloping plot by Roskilde Fjord. It is one room deep and one storey high, so every room has the fjord on one side and the garden on the other.

The cladding is pine, tarred on site in the old way, and it will turn silver over the next ten years. The roof is a thin steel plate that oversails the walls by a metre, enough to keep the summer sun off the glass.

Inside, the floor is polished concrete with underfloor heating, and the ceiling follows the slope of the roof.
