The Courtyard Houses
Thirty-two social housing units, each built around its own small courtyard. The scheme has the density of an apartment block, yet gives every household a house with its own front door, its own garden and its own patch of sky.
The houses are red brick inside and out, with oak floors and ceilings. They were built on a tight social housing budget, which the brick and the simple plan made possible.
A shared path runs through the scheme under a brick colonnade, past the common house and the laundry, so neighbours meet on the way home.
